Location: English Bay, British Columbia, Canada

Vancouver Police are releasing a composite sketch of a man who allegedly exposed himself to a 13-year-old girl at English Bay last week. On July 2nd, the young girl was spending the afternoon at the beach with friends. When her friends left to get something to eat, she stayed behind to watch their belongings. Crime: Fake Stranded Couple

Date: 2014-05-10

Location: Coquitlam, BC, Canada

On May 10th, the Coquitlam RCMP responded to a theft of a purse from a vehicle. Police believe the suspects followed the 58 year-old victim earlier in the day and secretly recorded the victim's credit card's Personal Identification Number when she made a purchase. The suspects then followed her home. As the victim got out of her car, a man and a woman distracted her by asking for water for their overheating engine. The Good Samaritan went inside her house to get some water to help the "stranded" couple. After she gave them the water, she started to unload her groceries. As the duo was leaving, they asked for more water again in case their engine overheated down the road. The victim went inside to get some more. Upon returning with the water, she discovered the pair had vanished along with her purse. Despite the fact that the victim contacted the bank minutes later to cancel her credit and debit cards, the bank told her one of the cards had been used a number of times to withdraw cash. The pair also acted like they were in a relationship by holding hands. The vehicle they were driving was a black Honda. Photo of the male suspect related to the incident on May 10th. The duo struck again in Coquitlam on June 8th. They allegedly stole the purse of a 67 year-old victim using a similar modus operandi and money was withdrawn from the victim’s account minutes later. The police are now asking for the public's assistance to identify the suspects. Crime: Kim Fofonove

Date: 1978-10-07

Location: not known location

Kim Fofonove was finishing his degree at SFU & was due to head to Regina in the spring, as he had been accepted into the RCMP. Away for the Thanksgiving long weekend, at a rugby tournament, Kim joined fellow teammates and others at a local pub to celebrate their team’s winning of two games earlier that day. Leaving the bar only minutes before closing, Kim exited alone and was found shortly thereafter, unconscious on the ground. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, Kim was never to regain consciousness, and would die in Vancouver hospital three days later. Although the RCMP ruled the death as caused by misadventure, the details of that tragic event have never come to light; the person or persons responsible for Kim’s senseless death have never been brought to justice and this case remains unsolved. Kim’s mom, Vivien Fofonove is now 87 years old. She has lived for years wondering what happened & why somebody killed her youngest child. Somewhere there is somebody who knows something. Somebody told somebody else. Maybe they’re parents and grandparents themselves now, all these years later. Maybe there’s no reason to fear telling the truth now. Maybe somebody needs to clear their conscience. One thing’s for sure: Vivien Fofonove and her one remaining son, Terry, need to have the peace of mind of knowing. If you have information on Kim Fofonove and want to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Crime: Larue Cold Case

Date: 2002-12-31

Location: East Side, Vancouver, BC, Canada

It was New Year’s Eve 2002 when an anonymous letter was opened by staff working at the Vancouver Police Department’s Public Service Counter. The letter referred to a Vancouver sex trade worker who had disappeared at the end of November, one month previous. The writer described the woman, admitted to killing her, and even apologized to her family for taking her life. He said he was surprised there had been nothing in the news about her disappearance and asked for the victim’s name to be mentioned in the news paper, so he would know who she was. Investigators believe the letter writer was referring to Danielle Marissa Larue, and while her body has never been found, they believe she has been murdered. Her 24 years had not been easy, with physical and sexual abuse beginning in her childhood. She entered foster care at an early age and ran away to the streets in Prince George when she turned 13, turning to drugs to ease her pain. She was always fiercely protective of her younger brother and sister, but Danielle became addicted to drugs and ended up working in the sex trade to support her habit. She had been living in the Downtown Eastside for longer than five years. It’s been more than a decade since Danielle went missing and police received the letter. The person who wrote the letter knows what happened to Danielle and where her body is buried, and seemed to be remorseful. Perhaps a tortured conscience will finally bring answers, justice and closure for Danielle’s family. Crime: North Van Drowning Unidentified

Date: 2014-07-21

Location: Lonsdale Quay SeaBus Northbound, North Vancouver, BC V7M, Canada

North Van 85-37623On December 12th, 1985, around 10 am, I was pulled out of the frigid waters of the Burrard Inlet, and brought to the shores of North Vancouver. This area is in close proximity to what is now known as Lonsdale Quay Market. I am grateful for the crane operator at the Burrard Dry docks, who was the one to first notice me floating in the water. The Provincial Coroner told Police I had drowned and had only been in the water for a maximum 48 hours.Nobody reported me missing. I was buried, and issued a death certificate, under the name, Jane Doe; which is the legal name designated to unknown, or unidentified females. To date, I haven’t been identified, and who I am, continues to puzzle Police. The Coroner estimated my age to be between 55 and 70 years old. I am female and stood 5’6 (168 cms) tall, and weighed about 175 lbs (77kgs). I had gray eyes, and my hair was brown, but recently had it dyed sandy blonde. I also wore dentures. X-rays confirmed that I suffered from scoliosis, likely affecting my posture.Perhaps someone recalls seeing me walking to the grocery store, or local bank? I had a horse shoe pin on me for good luck, a pack of Viscount Cigarettes and a lighter in my pocket. My attire that day was appropriate for the west coast winter. I was wearing a gray wool hip length coat, maroon coloured pants, a black blouse, a green wool vest, and white wool turtleneck dickie. I also had on white cotton dress gloves and a pair of black rubber boots with zippers on the side. What interests Police is the fact that I had the name Bella written in each of my boots. Was this my actual name? Were my boots second-hand? How did I end up in North Vancouver, in the water, two weeks before Christmas in 1985? Did I ride the Sea bus to North Vancouver? Was I on the Carol Ship the night before and somehow fell into the water? Or was I pushed? If you know who I am, or have any idea where Police should seek more information on me, please contact the North Vancouver RCMP. Investigators in charge of my case, file 1985-37623, need your help to solve this mystery. My life has ended. It’s only right that my true name be issued a death certificate.Anyone with information on this file is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP, Unsolved Homicides/Missing Persons investigators: Cst Mary-Louise Zadravetz (604)969-7505 or Cpl Sue Tupper (604) 969-7568, or email at nvcoldcase@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).

Surrey RCMP is alerting the public and requesting their assistance in identifying a fraudster who has been recently preying on elderly people and their generosity. The scam involves the suspect advising homeowners that his car has been towed nearby and he needs money to retrieve it. In some cases, the suspect gains access to the residence during the conversation and steals further items from the homeowner. The suspect will sometimes offer the homeowner an item as collateral before a return payment is made which turns out to be stolen property. He has also returned the next day in an apparent attempt to re-pay the homeowner which results in a further theft or robbery of the homeowner. The suspect uses a number of techniques in order to gain the victim’s trust including alleging knowledge of the victim’s family. Between May and June 2014, police responded to three complaints of a similar nature, however Surrey RCMP believe there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward. The frauds have all taken place in the City Centre area of Surrey. Despite a number of investigative steps and persons of interest, police have failed to identify and locate the suspect. Officers are hoping that releasing this information and surveillance photo (attached) will help identify who he is. The suspect is described as a South Asian male, mid 20’s, short black hair, clean cut, approximately 6’0”, slim to average build. Crime: VPD Cold Case Gurholt

Date: 1981-09-04

Location: 575 Richards Street, Vancouver, BC V6B, Canada

Some people end up living difficult lives, a long way off from where they started. Kristin Gurholt’s life came to an end in a Vancouver alleyway behind 575 Richards Street on September 4, 1981. She was naked and her skull had been fractured. Her clothing was scattered around her and a suitcase containing all of her personal effects was found nearby. It was 2:00 in the morning and Kristen had just been evicted from the Marble Arch Hotel in the Downtown Eastside. Investigators believe she met her assailant when she entered the alley and that the severe attack may have been the result of Kristin rejecting sexual advances. Kristin was just 34 years old, a petite woman with blue eyes and brown frizzy hair. She had come to Canada when she was only four, from Norway, and grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, in a loving family with five sisters and three brothers. Kristin was a creative child, who loved to read. She did very well in school, and particularly excelled in music. She studied piano and received honours in the Royal Conservatory of Music exams. She went on to earn a masters degree in education. It was while Kristin was in university that she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She was married and had a son, who family say was her greatest joy and the love of her life. The marriage ended after a few years, and when her son was seven he went to live with his father in B.C. Kristin moved to Vancouver and would take the bus on weekends to see him. Kristen, who was sometimes called Sunny or Misty, died a violent death in a dark alley, leaving behind a 12-year-old son. Her family has endured 32 long years of waiting for justice. For them, the memories of the sweet little girl who filled their house with music have been forever tainted with the painful knowledge of how her life ended and the fact that no one has been held accountable. If you have any information with respect to this incident please provide your anonymous information to Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Your tip could be worth a cash reward to you!
